For example: some island names from Spanish explorers, notably Don Dionisio Galiano and Don Cayetano Valdez, with islands now bearing their names. Saturna Island was named after the Spanish ship Saturnina, captained by Jose Maria Narvaez in 1791. Salt Spring Island received it's name from salty mineral springs located at the north end of the island. Vancouver Island was named after Captain George Vancouver.
